In some situations you may have to temporarily remove the siding and replace it after installing the underlayment shingles and flashing.
Roof underlayment flashing install.
Install an underlayment centered in the roof valley.
Cap staples are recommended on this underlayment every 12 inches along the bottom and every 24 inches in the middle.
Using your staple gun secure the felt to the roof.
Then install shingles on the other side.
Install underlayment a minimum of 6 inches up roof protrusions or vertical abutments.
These pieces act as a weather proofing and protective barrier between your house and the elements helping keep water and cold temperatures out.
To make corner flashing take your tin snips and cut a 45 degree line from an outside corner to the center fold.
Install synthetic roofing underlayment or felt paper according to manufacturer specifications and then install the first piece of valley flashing.
That is the drip edge flashing is the first item installed onto the roof sheathing or atop old shingles in a multi layer shingle re roof job.
Installing roof felt is a two person job.
Where the roof meets a wall lap the felt up 4 inches if possible.
Apply an approximately 3 inch.
With a clean valley you can lay down some peel and stick roofing membrane.
Fold the top over the roof ridge and cut the bottom along the drip edge metal.
In that installation the lower edge of the felt must be on top of not underneath the drip edge.
You ll have to overlap shingles as you go much like weaving.
Install final flashing material.
With underlayment and flashing installed apply shingles up to one side of the flashing.
Seal with adhesive sealant or tape as described in section 6.
Again do not drive nails through flashing.
Fasten drip edge on eaves with.
But first we re going to flash the eave with metal drip edge flashing and install the roofing membrane over it along the bottom edge of the roof.
Pry away the siding and slip the felt under the siding.
Start by laying asphalt felt or other underlayment over the roof.
Install your underlayment completely and your shingles up to where the wall begins so that the first piece of flashing or the corner flashing will rest on a shingle.
Nail metal drip edge flashing which bends over the roof and down the edge of the facing board on all roof edges.
Do not drive nails into the flashing.
